There was almost unseemly haste. It seemed only minutes passed. One minute the media are announcing Joe Biden has won the 2020 election. The next they’re offering odds on the next US election. The ouroboros nature of US politics is all but palpable. Online sportsbook sites in the US like Bovada evidently wish to leverage the recent uptick in public political interest. Then again, typically Presidents who’ve just won an election tend to lead the odds to win the next. Joe Biden doesn’t. He’s a 5/1 bet on the 2024 US Presidential election. The favorite to win with the bookies is Kamala Harris at 7/2. This is different but fair enough. The odds on the Democrats nominating her are high. Joe will be nearly 82 by then. They might, of course, nominate someone else. However, you can’t help thinking that Pete Buttigieg or Andrew Yang, the best of the bunch, are better as VP choices. They’re a 33/1 and 66/1 bet on the 2024 US Presidential election respectively, but those really are notional odds. If they run at all it’ll only be to gain a VP slot. The more interesting squabble will be on the other side of the aisle. It’ll be a battle royale far more exciting than any bet on sports in the US.
