You can always bet on England sabotaging their own chances whenever possible. They just can’t help it. From the crowd booing a gesture of solidarity against racism to cricketers posting racist tweets, just when English sport needs to focus, it ambushes itself. Just what effect this will have on their performance is questionable, how it’ll change their odds at online sportsbook sites in the UK like Bet365, unknown. But there’s no avoiding the conversation now, well, unless you’re Boris Johnson.

All the Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, had to do was disapprove of people booing when teams take a knee. He failed. Pointedly. Fans booed England significantly ahead of their friendly against Austria. Given taking a knee is a gesture against racism, apparently the crowd, and now Boris Johnson are pro-racist. That’s certainly how it looks. So once again just as the team needs to focus, you can bet on England spending most of its time discussing this lamentable situation. Despite the odds on Euro2020 making a bet on England look good, they have already lost Alexander Arnold. That lowers their creativity quotient by around half. They didn’t need this debate to pop up to distract them right now. Much as English football needs to face its demons, just before a major tournament is probably not the best timing. If you regularly bet on sports in the UK at Bet365 you’ll know that doesn’t matter to the press. Especially not the tabloids.

Odds On England Licking Racism Look Worse Than Ever

They sense the blood of controversy, something to keep people emotional, keep them clicking. Naturally, people find racism a very emotive subject. But, the very last people in the world who should be arbiters of what is an is not an appropriate response to racism are the tabloid press. They ask if taking a knee is a political gesture and belongs in sports at all. The press handing racists this excuse is why you can bet on England always having a problem with football fans.

There’s no sanction. No punishment. The Prime Minister won’t even condemn them for it. So what’s to stop them continuing to act anti-anti-racist in public? Nothing. You can bet on Euro2020 to get smothered in this for at least the group stage at Wembley. Indeed this distraction could well mean a bet on England at online betting sites in the UK like Bet365 might not be the best idea. What’s really worrying, however, is that it’s not just football facing racist issues.

The English & Wales Cricket Board suspended Ollie Robinson the England seamer. He had to apologize after his great International debut for some racist and sexist tweets he posted ten years ago. They were wholly abhorrent comments. He was right to apologize. The ECB suspending him, however, didn’t earn a lot of praise. Many felt they’d overreacted. Some of these were government ministers. They seem to bet on England missing him in the next Test. They will.
England vs NZ Odds
  • England – 6/5
  • New Zealand – 6/4
  • Draw – 4/1
However, a pattern seems to emerge. Boris Johnson won’t condemn anti-anti-racist booing, and believes someone posting racist rubbish shouldn’t be punished. Interesting. Anyone in the UK gambling laws of common sense and decency would see this rapidly settled should thus guess again. There’s a nasty wind blowing through English sport, perhaps across the UK as a whole and you can bet on England, regardless of which sport they’re playing to be in the eye of the hurricane.
