The Islamic Sharia is the main source of the country’s legislation according to Article 1 of the Consitution of Qatar, which means that there is no legal gambling in Qatar. Moreover, Article 763 of the Law No.22 of 2004 Regarding Promulgating the Civil Code is explicit that “any agreement on gambling or wager shall be void.” In this way, the authorities have the power to sanction everyone who is involved in gambling activities by imposing the punishments stated in Articles 275 and 276 of the Law No. 11 of the 2004 Penal Code.
The general prohibition holds for online gambling as well, as part of the internet content prohibited under the Sharia refers also to the different varieties of online gambling sites.
Is Online Gambling Legal in Qatar?
No. Gambling, including online gambling, is considered to be illegal in Qatar, according to Law No. 11 of the 2004 Penal Code.
Online Casinos in Qatar
There are no online casinos in Qatar. Gambling in the country is prohibited under the Islamic Sharia, so there are no Qatari online casino licenses on the offer. And although there is an active blockage on any online gambling content, illegal access to offshore casino sites from Qatar is very frequent.
Online Poker in Qatar
Online poker sites in Qatar are not legal as of July 2019. Although there are no specific Qatari poker laws, the general prohibition on gambling coming from the application of the Islamic Sharia holds for this game too.
