Online Poker Laws in France

Although there are no specific French online poker laws, the Law No 2010-476 from 12 May 2010 allows the existence of online poker sites in France. Its legality, as opposed to other casino games, comes from the fact that poker is mostly considered a game of skill.  Still, there are restrictions and only four games are allowed: Fixed-Limit Texas Hold’em; Pot-Limit Texas Hold’em; No-Limit Texas Hold’em; and Omaha Poker. Operators can obtain a license from the Autorité de Régulation des Jeux en Ligne (ARJEL), the regulatory body of online poker, which aims to protect players and to fight money-laundering and corrupt sites. But each platform needs to apply for a .fr domain, which means international pools are illegal. Moreover, the high taxes has led some operators to withdraw from the country, as reported by online poker news sites in France. As a result, the French online poker market has decreased, with many players using unlicensed international websites.

Online Poker Payment Methods in France

Operators are willing to offer safe platforms to players. This means that money transactions can only be made through transparent and reliable payment methods. Accordingly, the credit and debit options of VISA and MasterCard are usually accepted. But there are also alternative methods to deposit and withdraw winnings, such as Skrill, Neteller, PaySafeCard or PayPal.

Online Poker Sites Accepting EUR

France is one of the most important markets for online poker, due to the game’s popularity. Besides, the country is part of the Eurozone, which means it is easy for French to play in their local currency as there are several online poker sites accepting EUR.
