  • 2021 WRC season starts this week with the Monte Carlo Rally
  • 7-time world champion Sebastien Ogier is the main favorite to win
  • Belgian Thierry Neuville won the race last year for the first time in his career

The 2021 World Rally Championship will start this week with the Monte Carlo Rally. Ahead of the season opener we checked the main favorites according to the 2021 Monte Carlo Rally winner odds. Like defending world champion Sebastien Ogier and his main rival, Ott Tanak who can both win the first race in Monaco.

The 49th edition of the World Rally Championship, alias WRC will begin in a famous location in the Cote d’Azur. With the Monte Carlo Rally taking place between the 21st and 24th of January. The race will have 14 stages covering the distance of almost 258km. 10 teams will compete in the top category joined by several other teams in the lower, Rally 2 and Rally 3 categories. Belgian driver Thierry Neuville and his co-driver, Nicolas Gilsoul won the event last year and are also mentioned in the favorites. Just like the current world champion Sebastien Ogier who has already won here seven times before.

2021 Monte Carlo Rally winner odds offer similar odds for Ogier and Tanak

Online sportsbooks in Monaco offer the smallest odds, 2.50 for the victory of last year’s world champion, Sebastien Ogier and his co-driver, Julien Ingrassia. The seven-time world champion will go for his eighth title which can also be his last one. The Monte Carlo Rally is also one of his  favorite and most successful races after winning it seven times already. The only worrying sign is Ogier’s crash on last week’s second test which made his practice shorter. His co-driver also had to go for a medical check-up but was cleared after.

Let’s race!

One of his main rivals, Estonian Ott Tanak had a more serious crash in last year’s Monte Carlo race. He flew off a 40 meter high cliff after losing control over his Hyundai i20 but luckily neither him nor his co-driver, Martin Jarveoja were hurt in the accident. It was a bad start of his previous season when he finished third in the overall standing at the end. So surely the 2019 world champion wants to get a better result this time and will go for his 14th victory. He has the odds of 3.40 to achieve that in the 2021 Monte Carlo Rally winner odds.

Last year’s winner and top British driver are also in the favorites

The resident of Monaco, Thierry Neuville won the race last season for the first time in his career. He has the odds of 5.00 on 22Bet to defend his title now. The rest of his season didn’t go as well for the Belgian who finished in 4th place at the championship. It was a disappointing result from the Hyundai driver who has already finished as a runner-up five times before. This season Neuville will try to win his first world title and he will have a new co-driver to help him. As he broke up with his former co-driver, Nicolas Gilsoul who will be replaced by Martin Wydaeghe in 2021.

Ogier’s teammate, Elfyn Evans is also mentioned by online gambling sites in Monaco with the odds of 5.50 to win the first race. The British driver had a great last year after winning two races. And also finishing second in the overall standing at the end of the season. Evans came close to winning the Monte Carlo race in 2020. As he was leading for 16 stages but slipped on the last day. He was third at the end but might finish on the top of the podium this time.
