  • The 2021 Players Championship season starts with the first Special Series
  • Three series are scheduled with four one-day events in each series
  • Price and van Gerwen are the favorites to win the first event in Bolton

The 2021 Players Championship will begin this week with the first of three special series. The four-day event is held between the 25th and 28th of  February in Bolton. All top players will be there including the current world champion Gerwyn Price and Michael van Gerwen. Who are also the main favorites in the 2021 Players Championship 1 odds.

After the grouped blocks of last season’s Players Championship, we can see a similar format this year. Three four-day series will take place in the next two months, starting with the first series this week. The second series is scheduled to take place between 16-19 March in Milton Keynes. With the third series being held between 24-27 April in Germany. Each series will feature four one-day events with £75,000 prize money per event. 128 PDC Tour Card holder will fight for the first ranking title of the season including the 2021 world champion, Gerwyn Price. Along with Michael van Gerwen, Peter Wright and Gary Anderson. Fans can also see the return of Dutch legend Raymond van Barneveld. While Irish youngster Keane Barry and American Danny Baglish will take part in the PDC ProTour for the first time.

The 2021 PDC world champion, Gerwyn Price is currently leading the world ranking and one of the top favorites to win the first Super Series. Online sportsbooks in the UK offer the odds of 5.00 for his victory. The Welsh player had his best season last year after winning the World Series of Darts Finals and the World Grand Prix. And of course he became world champion for the first time this January. Price also got to the semi-finals of the 2021 Masters but lost there against Mervyn King in a thrilling game.

Michael van Gerwen had a less convincing start of the new season after being knocked out in the second round of the 2021 Masters. While he only reached the quarter-finals of the 2021 PDC World Championship. But the Dutch is still one of the best players who won three Players Championship events last season beside its final in November. The three-time world champion has the same odds, 5.00 to win in Bolton according to the 2021 Players Championship 1 odds.

Wright, Anderson and Aspinall can all win the first event

Peter Wright has won four events in last year’s Players Championship and was leading the Order of Merit ahead of the Finals where he got to the semi-finals. The 2020 world champion had a disappointing run at the Alexandra Palace last time after being knocked out in the third round. But he played much better at this year’s Masters after reaching the semi-finals. Online gambling sites in the UK offer the odds of 8.00 for his victory now.

Another former world champion, Gary Anderson had a comeback year in 2020. As he won his first ranking title since 2018 at the first Players Championship event last February. The Flying Scotsman also reached the final of the 2020 World Matchplay. And of course his third final at the PDC World Championship where he lost against Gerwyn Price 7-3. But Anderson seems to be in great form again even his odds of 21.00 doesn’t really reflect this. Nathan Aspinall has also got great results in last year’s tournament and won two events. Just like Michael Smith who was close to winning his first ranking event last year but failed in both occasions. Their odds to get the first win of the series are 26.00 on bet365.
