The World Cup of Darts tournament was born from the Jocky-Wilson Cup, which was a one-off event between England and Scotland. Then in the following year, in 2010 a new tournament was introduced in the PDC calendar where teams of the top 24 nations competed. The teams consist of the two highest-ranked players in each country. The field was extended to 32 in 2014 and has stayed the same ever since. The top eight nations are seeded and can’t meet each other in the first round. Both England and the Netherlands have won the tournament four times so far. But Wales is the defending champion after its team defeated England in last year’s final. These two teams can easily meet again in this year’s final at the Sparkassen-Arena in Jena, Germany.

Last Year’s Finalists Lead in the 2021 World Cup of Darts Odds

Gerwyn Price won the Hungarian Trophy last week with a brilliant play in the final, defeating Michael Smith 8-2 at the end. This week the world No1 will try to defend his World Cup of Darts title which he won along with Jonny Clayton. Clayton is also in great form this season after winning the 2021 Masters and the 2021 Premier League. Price won his first world championship title at the beginning of the year. He also reached the semi-finals of the UK Open and the Masters. No wonder that online sportsbooks in Germany favor the duo to defend their title with the odds of 2.984. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ndg4j0OtraM Their biggest rivals can be the English pair of James Wade and Dave Chisnall who will represent the country for the first time together. Wade competed in the first World Cup back in 2010 while Chisnall played along with Adrian Lewis and Rob Cross in 2017 and 2018. None of them played in a final thought in this tournament which will surely be their main aim now. They are the top seeds following their great positions at the world rankings. Wade won the 2021 UK Open and is currently in fourth place. Chisnall is the world No7 at the moment. His best result this season has been reaching the semi-final in the world championship. Now they have the odds of 4.84 in the 2021 World Cup of Darts odds to win the trophy.

Chances of the Dutch, Belgian and Scottish Teams

Probably everyone is waiting for a win-now from three-time world champion Michael van Gerwen who is only third in the world ranking right now. He hasn’t won any tournament this season even though he reached three semi-finals. Now MVG has another chance of winning in one of his most successful events where he has already won three times. Then his partner was Raymond van Barneveld, now he will play along with Dirk van Duijvenbode. The young Dutch is still looking for his first PDC title. Now he has the odds of 5.10 to get it now playing along with van Gerwen. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_lY8aTEosOc Online gambling sites in Germany offer the odds of 7.70 for the Belgian team of Dimitri Van den Bergh and Kim Huybrechts. The latter has already played in a World Cup of Darts final with his brother back in 2013. Then they lost against England. Now he can try again with Van den Bergh who won last year’s World Matchplay and reached the final this year again. Their pair reached the semi-finals last season but can do even better this time. A win would be a surprise though from the Scottish team, which consists of Peter Wright and John Anderson. Wright won the title along with Gary Anderson in 2019. Now the world No2 can help Anderson for a better result. The 48-year-old player got to the second round last season partnered with Robert Thornton. Their odds to go all along now are 12.50 on 22Bet.
