  • It awards the best African American musicians, actors, and athletes
  • Doja Cat received the most nominations with 6 followed by Drake and Ari Lennox

2022 Black Entertainment Television Awards, aka the BET Awards, will take place on the 26th of June at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. Doja Cat received the most nominations with 6 while Drake and Ari Lennox follow her with 4-4 nominations. The 2022 BET Awards predictions also favor Doja Cat to win in two major categories. Let’s see all the nominees who will compete with her.

The first BET Awards was held in 2001 by the Black Entertainment Television Network to celebrate African Americans in all parts of life from sports to music. Nominees are selected by a voting academy made up of 500 people from the music industry, media, and bloggers. Beyonce received the most nominations with 75 winning 33 of them. She is followed by Chris Brown and Drake who got 52 and 51 nominations so far. We can see all three of them in this year’s nominees in one of the 20 current categories. Which also includes categories for the best sportsmen/sportswomen, best actors/actresses, and best international acts. But music takes a central role in the awards, let’s focus on two main categories there.

2022 BET Awards Predictions For The Album of the Year Category

Doja Cat is the main favorite to win the Album of the Year category with the odds of 2.00. The 26-year-old American rapper, singer, and songwriter had lots of success with her third album, Planet Her. It was second for three consecutive weeks on the Billboard 200 and was nominated for a Grammy this year. The album includes the top hits, Kiss Me More (with SZA), Need to Know, and Woman.  Doja Cat won most of her awards for her collaboration with SZA, but she might win the best album award now. Kanye West can be a big rival though, who has the odds of 4.00 to win the category in the 2022 BET Awards predictions.

The rapper’s latest album called Donda topped the Billboard 200 charts and was leading the charts in other 18 countries. It was also a nominee in the Album of the Year and Best Rap Album categories at the Grammys despite mixed critical reviews. But fans loved it as it had the most first-day streams for an album on Spotify and Apple Music last year. Online sportsbooks in Canada also mention Silk Sonic, the duo of Bruno Mars and Anderson Paak in the favorites with the odds of 6.00. Their song, Leave the Door Open won four Grammys. Now their debut album, An Evening with Silk Sonic can do the same at the BET Awards.

Doja Cat is also favored to win the Video of the Year category

We already mentioned Doja Cat’s collaboration with SZA, Kiss Me More which has won several awards. Now the video featuring an astronaut and an imaginary planet is the top favorite to win the Video of the Year category with the odds of 1.65. Silk Sonic’s third single from their debut album, Smokin out the Window follows it with the odds of 3.74. Their video is a classic one, with the duo performing on stage along with a band and backup singers. Interestingly it received the nomination instead of their biggest hit but it can still get the win.

Just like Baby Keem and Kendrick Lamar’s single, Family Ties which was directed by Dave Free. The video includes a cameo from singer Normani, a former member of Fifth Harmony. Besides different clips, which are placed on top of each other. Online gambling sites in Canada offer the odds of 6.00 for their win. While Canadian rapper, Drake’s odds are only 10.00 to get the award. His comedic music video for his single, Way 2 Sexy pays tribute to pop culture and pop icons like Michael Jackson, Prince, and Boys II Men. It features American rappers Future and Young Thug, while NBA player Kawhi Leonard also has a cameo. Drake already won 15 awards at the BET but he is not likely to win this one.
