  • The 2022 Tour de Romandie is held this week, 26 April - 1 May
  • It is the last stage race ahead of this year’s Giro d’Italia
  • Geraint Thomas won it last year and he is in the favorites again

The Swiss stage race, the 2022 Tour de Romandie is taking place this week, between 26 April and 1 May. Ineos rider Geraint Thomas is the defending champion and he is one of the main favorites again. Along with Bora rider Aleksandr Vlasov and Volta a Catalunya winner Sergio Higuita according to the 2022 Tour de Romandie winner odds.

The Tour de Romandie stage race has been running since 1947 in the French-speaking region of Switzerland. The race usually begins with an individual time trial prologue and ends with another ITT running in hilly terrains. The Tour de Romandie offers the last opportunity for riders to practice ahead of the first Grand Tour of the season, the Giro d’Italia. Interestingly, the winners of this event have often become the winners of the other big race, the Tour de France. Cadel Evans, Bradley Wiggins, and Chris Froome all won both races. Primoz Roglic has also won this tournament twice before but it didn’t bring him luck in the Tour de France later. He is suffering from an injury and won’t race this time. Unlike last year’s winner, Geraint Thomas who will try to defend his title and continue Ineos’ great run.

Vlasov leads the 2022 Tour de Romandie Winner Odds

Aleksandr Vlasov won this year’s Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana in February and finished third in the Tour of the Basque Country. The 25-year-old rider also got great results on one-day races after finishing second in the GP Miguel Indurain. While he was third last week in the La Fleche Wallone. Not a bad list from the Bora rider who has the smallest odds, 3.74 to win the race on online sportsbooks in Switzerland.  Vlasov was close to finishing on the podium in last year’s Giro, a victory here could surely motivate him for another good result in the Italian tour.

We can find several other great riders with a chance of winning the overall race here. The 2022 Tour de Romandie winner odds mention first from them the 2021 winner, Geraint Thomas with the odds of 7.00. The British cyclist will lead a young but talented Ineos team and ride along with Ethan Hayter, Magnus Sheffield, and Lucas Plapp. Even though Thomas hasn’t won any race since his victory here, a good result might secure his place in this year’s Tour de France. The 2022 Tour of Sicily winner Damiano Caruso is also among the favorites. The Bahrain rider finished 9th here last year and has the odds of 10.00 to win it now.

Higuita, McNulty, and Izagirre in Other Favorites

Vlasov’s teammate, Sergio Higuita won this year’s Volta a Catalunya but he couldn’t finish the Basque Tour. The Columbian seems to be back in form though. As he was 5th on Sunday at the 2022 Liege-Bastogne-Liege one-day classic. Making him another possible contender this week. Online gambling sites in Switzerland offer the odds of 12.00 for his victory. We can find American Brandon McNulty with similar chances. The UAE rider can lead the team in the absence of Tadej Pogacar despite his recent crash in Liege. He won a stage in the 2022 Paris-Nice and finished as a runner-up in the Volta ao Algarve.

The runner-up of the Basque Tour, Ion Izagirre is another good climber who finished third in this tournament in 2016. The Cofidis cyclist was 7th in this year’s Paris-Nice but this route suits him better. Ben O’Connor will lead Ag2r in the race where he finished 6th last year. This season the Australian was also 6th in the Volta a Catalunya and 7th in the Vuelta an Andalucia. He has the odds of 15.00 to win in Romandie now. His compatriot, Rohan Dennis is riding for Jumbo along with Sepp Kuss, who will hope for his first good result of the season. Dennis himself can aim for a top-place finish thanks to his great time-trial skills.
