Following the growing popularity of women’s darts, PDC decided to organize the first full-televised tournament in Blackpool this month. The main darts organization has introduced the Women’s Series before to offer opportunities for the best players to compete all year round. Now the best eight players of the Women’s Series Order of Merit will get a chance to take part in the new event with a live broadcast on television. The winner of the Matchplay can take home £10,000. While she will also earn a place in the 2022 Grand Slam of Darts.  The most well-known names of the sport, Lisa Ashton and Fallon Sherrock are the main favorites. Especially in the absence of other high-profile players such as Mikuru Suzuki and Trina Gulliver.

2022 Women’s World Matchplay odds offer a similar chance for Ashton and Sherrock

Lisa Ashton is a four-time BDO champion and one of the most experienced women darts players. She has several other major wins including three World Masters and World Darts Trophy titles. The 51-year-old has also played in three PDC World Championships but couldn’t progress to the second round yet. This season Ashton has already won seven out of 12 Women’s Series events, making her the top seed in the Matchplay as well. And the biggest favorite of online sportsbooks in the UK offering the odds of 2.37 for her victory.

Her biggest rival can be 28-year-old Fallon Sherrock who managed to defeat Ashton a couple of times before. She was the runner-up in the 2015 BDO World Championship and the winner of the 2018 World Darts trophy. Sherrock has become hugely popular following her performance in the 2020 PDC World Championship where she got to the third round as the first female player. She also reached the quarter-final at the 2021 Grand Slam of Darts and the final of the 2021 Nordic Darts Masters. This season the “Queen of the Palace” won three Women’s Series events, once defeating Ashton in the final. Her odds to win in Blackpool are 2.50 in the 2022 Women’s World Matchplay odds.

Other players with a chance of winning

Even though Ashton and Sherrock stand out from the field, we also have to mention a few other players who might get the win in this historic event. First, another English player, Lorraine Winstanley, the runner-up in the 2019 World Championship. The 46-year-old is another experienced player who managed to win the 2017 World Masters. She hasn’t got such PDC experience as the main favorites, but she also plays in the Women’s Series. What’s more, Winstanley won the 10th event in Barnsley last month. And managed to defeat Sherrock in the first event at the beginning of the year.

Online gambling sites in the UK offer her the odds of 11.00 to get the win now. Similar odds are offered for the victory of Aileen De Graaf. The Dutch player won the 2015 World Masters and the 2017 World Darts Trophy. While her best result at the World Championship has been getting to the last four. De Graaf also reached the final of two events in this year’s Women’s Series but lost both times against Ashton. She can meet her in the semi-final this time if she can beat Laura Turner in the first round. An even tougher job awaits 18-year-old Katie Sheldon who will start the tournament against Sherrock. The Irish teenager has already managed to beat her this year in the Women’s Series where she reached her first final. Her odds to cause an even bigger surprise in Blackpool are 15.00. on bet365.
