All About the WPT Prime Series

The latest event of the World Poker Tour, the WPT Prime makes its debut this year, with three Asia-based tournaments. The first event will be held in Vietnam between the 19th and 30th of May, followed by two more events in Cambodia and Taiwan. The World Poker Tour has been operating different poker series and tournaments since 2002 with the biggest events belonging to the WPT Main Tour. Thanks to television broadcasts, millions of viewers can follow these events all over the world. In its 20th season, the WPT is also launching a new series called WPT Prime. The new series will start in May, with its first stop in Vietnam. But the start of WPT Prime also means the end of WPT DeepStacks. Another series of the brand launched in 2014. The DeepStacks staple will finish this April with the final events taking place in Amsterdam, Sydney, and Thunder Valley in Northern California. 

All about the WPT Prime series: dates, locations and buy-ins

The main aim of the new series of WPT Prime is to involve new markets and poker players in the global poker circuit. Confirming this statement the first stop will be held in Vietnam at the Crown Poker Club in Hanoi in May. Followed by the second event in Cambodia between 11-23 August, held at the NagaWorld Integrated Resort in Phnom Penh. While the third stop will be in Taiwan, at the Chinese Texas Hold’em Poker Association in Taipei between 11-21 November. All three stops will come with an $1100 buy-in main event, making them more affordable than the Main Tour events.

The new series will have features like an action clock and in-depth coverage by the WPT team. While these events will also count towards the WPT Player of the Year leaderboard. But they will have their own Player of the Festival competition too with extra trophies and prices. The new Prime series will offer tournaments with various buy-ins, so players with different backgrounds can take part in them. Don’t worry if you can’t visit any of these events in person, as you can also win money on online poker sites in the US like Everygame Poker. First stop in Vietnam

So the first WPT Prime event will be held in Vietnam between the 19th and 30th of May at the Crown Poker Club. The club has already hosted a WPT DeepStacks tournament last year with a  $318,000 prize pool. This year’s new tournament will feature a five-day main event between 26-30 May with an $1100 buy-in. The prize pool and the number of the players are not known yet. But surely more details will be released soon.

One thing is sure already. The winner of the Main Event will be eligible to compete for the WPT Player of the Year title. And for the main prize, a  $15,000 WPT Passport that can be used in any Season XXI global WPT live event.  Poker has been more and more popular in Asia. And surely this new series will only increase people’s interest in the game. Besides the World Poker Tour events, there are other international poker tournaments. Like the Asian Poker Tour and the Asia Poker League. We can also find some great professional poker players from the country. Like Scotty Nguyen who won the no-limit Texas Hold’em WSOP Main Event in 1988, earning $1 million with his winning hand.
