Irish punter Barney Curley managed to overpower bookmakers once more by organizing a horse coup which brought EUR18 Million winnings.

Paddy Power, online sportsbook in Ireland, commented: “There’s no doubt this is one of the blackest days in the history of bookmaking. The horses have been backed in singles, doubles, trebles and four-folds and punters who have heard about the gamble have clambered aboard the bandwagon.

The bookie added: “What looked like a mundane midweek’s racing has turned into one of the most newsworthy racing days of the modern era and we reckon it cost the industry EUR 18 million.”

Outstanding win which will be quoted for long time in the future

It will be very hard to be proved if the win is due to a smartly organized coup or just excellent betting, but one thing is for sure – four horses which were perceived as outsiders, were heavily bet on by punters, and eventually won the races.

What is interesting is that each of the winners was linked to Barney Curley, who has the bad reputation of tricking the betting shops in the past, using similar technique. Additionally, three of the winner horses – Eye of the Tiger, Low Key and Seven Summits were previously trained by him. The last one, Indus Valley, was trained by an associate of Curley.

Currently, there is no official accusation of any illegal activity, but the British Horseracing Authority promised it would investigate the circumstances of the wins, which if found legitimate would also mean that no Irish gambling laws were broken.
