Although some people believe that craps is purely based on an element of chance, there are lots of ways to increase your chances of winning. There are multiple betting strategies to win money while playing craps, and today we are going to take a look at some of them.

Strategies to win money playing craps: introduction

Despite the fact that it is almost impossible to predict how dices will roll, it is possible to bet strategically. It is worth noting that some dice controllers might be able to roll dices in a way they don’t get 7s. However, this is a skill and it requires a lot of practice. So instead, we will focus on betting tips. And if you haven’t heard about this game yet, check out our guide on how to play craps.

Playing it safe: Pass Line and Come Bets

The pass line and come bets are the most popular bets in the game of craps. Moreover, they have a relatively low house edge - only 1,41%. As you already know, the pass line bet is a two-step bet. It all starts with a shooter rolling the dices. If a shooter gets 7 or 11, they win. In the case of a 2, 3, or 12, the shooter loses automatically. At that moment, the point is on the “off” side. All the other numbers - 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, and 10 - will lead to the next step. From that moment, one of the numbers becomes a point and the physical point is flipped on the “on” side. The shooter needs to get the number they hit in the previous step before they score a 7. All the other numbers don’t matter and the player only focuses on their number and a 7. Come bet follows the same rules, but you can place this bet after the point is “on”. If the shooter gets a 7 or 11, you win and in case it is a 2, 3, or 12, you lose. In case the shooter hits a point, your come bet is moved to that particular number. Both of these bets are paid out 1:1 or even money. Placing on the pass line and come bets is the best option for first-timers, as these bets don’t require a huge bankroll. Besides, it is relatively easy to keep track of your betting.

Iron cross strategy

The following strategy is one of the most popular strategies to win money playing craps. It requires a lot of bets, so make sure you find the table with the smallest minimum bet available, in case you are playing on a budget. The name of the strategy comes from the pattern it forms  - once you place all the bets, casino chips create a cross pattern. The idea behind the iron cross is that you bet on every possible outcome, except for the 7. The combination of the field, the place bets on 5, 6, and 8 altogether create a cross. Thus, only 7 is left uncovered. The payouts also depend on the number that the shooter will roll. In case of 2, you will receive a 2:1 payout. If a shooter hits 3, 4, 9, 10 or 11, you will get 1:1. Finally, in case a shooter hits 5, 6, or 9, you will receive a 7:5 payout. These are standard payouts, but sometimes online casino sites in the UK offer better payouts. This strategy is easy and it suits people who like winning all the time. However, in case you do hit a 7, you will lose all of your bets. Though, this wouldn’t happen too often - chances of getting any other number than 7 are higher. To sum it up, the iron cross is a great strategy in case you love consecutive winnings and you can afford placing multiple bets at the same time.

3 Point Molly

The following strategy designed for experienced craps players with a huge bankroll. You will need to start by placing a pass line bet, let’s say $10. In case of a win or lose, just continue placing the pass line bet until the shooter rolls a point. Then, you will need to place the maximum possible bet on that point. Here, the size of your first point bet will depend on the number a shooter hits. For example, in case of 6 or 8, the maximum bet is 5 times as big as your pass line bet. In case of 5 and 9, it is 4 times bigger and in case of 4 and 10, it is 3 times bigger. Once you have the first point, you will need to place a come bet. Again, in case the shooter rolls a point, your come bet is moved to that number. When that happens, place the maximum point bet. Finally, you will need to make the last come bet and place the maximum bet on your final point. Usually, at least one of your bets will hit before this point of the game. However, if that didn’t happen, just continue waiting.

There is a chance that you will lose all of your bets, but as we mentioned, the 3 point molly is considered an aggressive betting strategy. Similarly to the iron cross strategy, all your bets are out if the shooter hits a 7. However, if one of your bets hit, you will win a jackpot.
