Anyone in the UK gambling laws of poetic justice would see Boris Johnson hung by his old ally Dominic Cummings was going to be sorely disappointed. The evidence was long, tedious and not especially revealing. But, Boris, just to be on the safe side, took the added precaution of getting married to distract everyone. It worked. Johnson survives another round of scandals, but with a defeat at the hands of his own party in the works, how long should you bet on UK politics keeping him in power?

Boris Johnson is the cockroach of British politics. Just when it’s clear you should bet on UK politics to throw him out, it doesn’t. He survives regardless. What he does seems immaterial. What he says matters nought. Nothing seems to stick. Scandals pile up so fast he seems to surf forth upon their frothy tips. He should be a dead duck, but he’s still odds on to be around for the next election. This despite Dominic Cummings giving evidence of his uncaring incompetence.

Dominic Cummings was a special advisor to Boris Johnson. He helped Boris get No.10 and the Brexiteers win. He was there when the UK government faced off against the crisis and watched it fail. Unfortunately, in the hours and hours of testimony about it, he didn’t actually tell us anything we didn’t already know deep down. Like one knows a bet on sports in the UK involving England winning the Euros is just a bit daft (especially now Alexander Arnold is out of it).

Cummings Came And Went To Little Effect

Dominic charged that the Prime Minister was useless, the Health Minister a liar, and that thousands died due to the slow response of the government. With any other PM these would have been earthshattering revelations. Instead, we all rolled our eyes and said “tell us something we don’t know”. It was as if he were stating the obvious. Most people bet on UK politics actually shrugging this all off quite quickly. Partly because Dom is a known liar, but mostly because of the wedding.

“He’s the person you fire when the inquiry comes along.”

  • Boris Johnson on Matt Hancock

Dominic Cummings told the committee he had lied on previous occasions. Which rather calls into question his veracity this time round, does it not? So, in many ways this was a toothless obvious attack Boris could easily swat aside. Even Matt Hancock just shrugged it off. The odds on Boris Johnson at online sportsbook sites in the UK like Bet365 barely waivered. Dom’s final bet on UK politics seemed to have led him up the garden path as Boris strolled down the aisle.

Just how cynical you wish to be about the “secret” wedding that everyone found out about, is up to you. Of course, you’d need to be pretty cold to get married to someone just to divert the press from all the negatives floating around you. Is Boris that sort of chap? I think we all know the answer to that one. So yet again Boris survives what would be lethal for anyone else, just in time for his own party to start rebelling against him. This time over the decision to cut foreign aid.

Boris Exit Date Odds

  • 2021 – 11/1
  • 2022 – 4/1
  • 2023+ – 4/11
  • 2024+ – 8/11

Former development secretary Andrew Mitchell has gathered quite the array of support. He believes the cuts to foreign aid touted by the government are a disaster waiting to happen. So Boris could face an embarrassing defeat, but what’s the chance those prices at online betting sites in the UK like Bet365 shift? That’s right. Zero. The Boris juggernaut rolls forward without a care, making him the best bet on UK politics at the moment. Well, it sure ain’t Keir Starmer, is it?

We take a look at why you shouldn’t bet on UK politics to hold Boris Johnson to account since it apparently doesn’t care.
