Amongst other major brands, Betway, Unibet, and PokerStars were added to the Lithuanian casino blacklist based on the amended Lithuanian gambling laws.

As we previously reported, Lithuanian gambling laws were considerably straitened at the beginning of 2016. Since then, Lithuania’s Gaming Control Authority is collecting and blocking all casinos that operate without a license. The rigorous approach towards illegal gambling includes the publication of blocked casinos. Now, the Lithuanian casino blacklist includes online gambling giants like PokerStars, William Hill, Betway and Unibet. The Authority asked internet providers to block access to these sites.

“It is surprising that certain world-wide known companies, reluctant to legalise their activity, are blatantly violating the laws of the Republic of Lithuania,” said Virginijus Dauksys, Director of the Gaming Control Authority. Some of these operators have tried with some fishy tricks to bypass the authorities, what Dauksys compared to smuggling. “Changing of the internet domain name in order to avoid the legal measures and to operate illegally in Lithuania can be treated as smuggling activity,” he told to Lithuanian gambling news sites. Dauksys confirmed that the blocking will be continued and the sites will face serious legal measures.
