Puma will replace Nike as the official kit manufacturer of Manchester City from next season, which is set to generate the club more than double than what the current deal with American giant brings in.

More cash and more success?

The Etihad side have been sponsored by Nike since 2013/14 and that deal will come to a close at the end of the next season, as the club look to monetize on their growing global brand. But since Man City were still not the club that they are now, so the deal saw them collect a meagre sum from the American sports manufacturer compared to other top sides in the Premier League, who are raking in far greater revenues from their kit deals.

But with Man City having established themselves as a side that can regularly compete for the biggest trophies, the hierarchy at the club has decided to sign a sponsorship deal with Puma that is rumoured to be worth £50m per season once it kicks in effect next year. Online sportsbooks in UK offers some of the best odds on them winning the Premier League.

“The contract between City and Nike was not the most lucrative and the sum that City will receive from Puma, which has not been disclosed, will make City one of the highest earners from kit sponsorship,” says a report by Mundo Deportivo.

“A few months ago rumours surfaced that City would leave Nike to sign with another brand, and Puma were one of those who picked up on it. Now it is confirmed that as of the 19/20 season we will see City and Girona wearing Puma.”

Man City will join the exclusive club of super-rich kit deals

The Sky Blues will have entered into a new league once Puma takes over manufacturing their kits next year; this deal will put them on a comparable sphere as their biggest rivals in the league. Their cross town rivals Manchester United are still the Premier League’s biggest earners, as their deal with Adidas is worth £75m per season, as long as they keep qualifying for the Champions League.

The second most lucrative shirt sponsorship is Chelsea’s Nike deal which sees them get around £60m per season, so Man City’s Puma agreement will grant them third place on this podium. But in reality, it will likely see them conquer the Premier League multiple times in the years to come, as they’ll be even more flushed with cash.

It seems that Sheikh Mansour’s private money will no longer be needed, as the club is able to sustain revenues and growth on their own. But what’s truly scary is the rate at which the club has managed to transition to financing themselves; as a comparison it took Chelsea nearly a decade until they were able to let go of Roman Abramovich’s money and become more independent, online sportsbooks news report.

Nonetheless, this deal will allow Man City to go to new heights that could potentially win them the biggest trophy in Europe – the Champions League. Bet on Man City to win the Champions League with Bet365 Sportsbook.
