Mayweather’s next fight is set to be against Andre Berto, who has a 3-3 record

Mayweather’s next fight had a sense of mystery for months. After making US gambling news at the “Fight of the century” against Manny Pacquiao, Mayweather’s father said that his son should fight someone “easy” since it will be his last fight. It was known that Mayweather had one more fight under his Showtime contract that had to be fulfilled. Although the contract stipulations between Mayweather and Pacquiao may have allowed a rematch, it wasn’t going to happen.
• Mayweather chose to fight Andre Berto in his last bout
• Keith Thurman (undefeated) is upset about Mayweather’s decision
• Andre Berto has only won 3 out of his 6 last fight since 2010

Amir Khan really wanted to the opportunity to fight Mayweather and may have been the champion’s best option since he is a respected fighter whom could be beaten without much trouble. Due to Mayweather’s last fight date coinciding with the Islamic month of Ramadan, the bout never materialized. Shawn Porter may have also been an equally good choice, but that never panned out as well. Mayweather easily made gambling news with his choice of a fighter who many consider mediocre at best.

Mayweather’s next fight was bound to disappoint fans

Floyd Mayweather clearly disturbed many people with his choice of Andre Berto as his last opponent was far superior in almost every regard. One of the individuals most irked by Mayweather’s actions is undefeated titlist Keith Thurman. During a media event in Brooklyn, New York, Thurman found difficulty containing himself. “I’m the realist fighter you guys are going to see in a really long time because I’m not afraid to talk about boxing and the way it really is.”

Demonstrating his lack of fear, Thurman continued. “There are beautiful things about the sport of boxing and ugly things.” The undefeated Thurman definitely has legitimate complaints about Mayweather’s choice. Over a month ago, Thurman was said by Mayweather Productions CEO Leonard Ellerbe that the top contender was “not on Floyd’s level.” As a result, Thurman was taken from the list of candidates which made life a bit less exciting for mobile betting.

Thurman pondered over that comment by Ellerbe and came to the conclusion that those words were part of Mayweather’s plan of controlling the boxing industry. “What I’ve come to acknowledge is that Floyd Mayweather is in a very special position in his career where has more power than anyone else in boxing” and he “uses that power to the best of his ability.” The top contender claimed his thoughts came from years of watching Mayweather’s actions in and out of the ring.

“Let’s watch ‘Money’ spend his money on a Rolls Royce and a Bentley. Let’s watch ‘Money’ go to a strip club. Let’s watch ‘Money’ go around with a bag of money and go buy some shoes. Whatever he want to do, America is going to watch; it’s called the ‘Money Show’ ” Although Thurman and Berto are friends, the decision remains disappointing. Regardless, Thurman will be cheering for his friend the night of the fight.

Mayweather’s next fight will prove exciting according to Mayweather

Floyd Mayweather spoke out about his intentions when he announced Berto as his next opponent. “With the way he comes, and with the way I’m going to come, if it’s not a knockout, there’s going to be some knockdowns. A lot.” If Mayweather’s plan was to give audiences a far more aggressive performance, perhaps he was right in choosing Berto as his next victim. Amir Khan, Shawn Porter and especially Thurman will not respond ”passively” to direct confrontation in the ring as will Berto.

Although Berto has knocked out 23 of his opponents, he has only won 3 out of 6 bouts since 2010. Mayweather himself, known for his mostly defensive style, has only knocked out 1 in 9 opponents since 2007.Many internet casinos report that in the “Fight of the Century” Mayweather defeated Pacquiao by way of points without ever looking for a knock-out opportunity. Regardless, the undefeated champion claimed that Berto was a worthy opponent for his last bout in the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Vegas on September 12.

Meanwhile, the fighter who was told wasn’t worthy, knows he is the top contender for the welterweight title. “Everybody knows the day I beat Diego Chaves, I became the WBA interim world titlist, which made me the number one contender for whomever was the WBA titlist.” Thurman believes that his defeat of Chavez forced the WBA to crown Mayweather “super champion” in order to distance him the two undefeated fighters. Mayweather’s next fight may not draw many to online sportsbooks in the US.

Thurman will wait until his advisor Al Haymon offers him a decent fight. He sees a different goal for Mayweather other than his historical mark. “He’s focused on the money and wants to make history-not the way I want to make history- but he wants to make history on numbers and numbers alone. So once again, enjoy ‘The Money Show.’ I wouldn’t pay for the next fight but that’s on you.”
