What about the title?

If you are not a catholic, or just not that deeply into religion, you might not know too much about the title of the pope. So here is a little recap for you. They sometimes refer to them as the supreme pontiff or the Roman pontiff. This person is the bishop of Rome, basically the head of the worldwide Catholic Church and also sovereign of the Vatican City in Rome. It is a widely honored position that is currently held by pope Francis. They elected him in 2013. According to Wikipedia, he is the first pope to be a member of the Society of Jesus, the first from the Americas, the first from the Southern Hemisphere, and the first pope from outside Europe since Gregory III, a Syrian who reigned in the 8th century.

Electing a pope

According to Time, the papal post is traditionally held until death. (However, Francis’s predecessor Pope Benedict XVI resigned in 2013 after roughly seven years in office, becoming the first pope to step down in nearly 600 years.) So, after the current pope passes, they have to decide who is next. You may wonder, how they do that. It is the duty of the papal conclave to decide on the persona of the next pope. The conclave is a gathering of the College of Cardinals convened to elect the pope. It is with a two-thirds supermajority vote that they decide who the next pope should be.

On the other hand, it is the duty of bookmakers to give some odds to online gambling sites in the UK on the issue. Who will be the next pope? Bwin already has some ideas on the topic. See them below!

Next pope odds

It might seem to be untasteful to give predictions on this issue, but it is reasonable because of one thing. In 2015 pope Francis suggested that he had a feeling about him having a short papacy. It is not that he did not want to be a pope, it is just that he felt that he will not serve more than 4 or five years. However, it has already been 6 years, and fortunately, he is still fine and healthy. But his predictions still triggered some odds on the next pope. According to Bwin, there are three frontrunners for the title for now. They are L.A. Tagle, P.K.A. Turkson, and A. Scola, all of them with odds 6/1. The next most possible candidate is M. Ouellet with 7/1. But C. Schonborn also stands a chance with odds 8/1.

So, as for now, they are the most possible options to get the title, when the time comes. However, it can still be a long way down the road, so you can still think about the options. And you can keep checking online gambling news sites in the UK, they might have a lot to say on the topic!
