  • Southampton is only in 17th place after seven rounds in the Premier League
  • German Ralph Hasenhuttl has been leading the club since December 2018
  • The biggest favorite to replace him is former Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe

Southampton stands only in 17th place in this season’s Premier League with only four points after seven rounds. It raises the question how long can Ralph Hasenhuttl stay as the Saints’ manager. In case he is sacked the former manager of AFC Bournemouth, Eddie Howe is the favorite to replace him according to the next Southampton manager odds.

Ralph Hasenhuttl was appointed as the manager of Southampton at the end of 2018 replacing Mark Hughes. Since then the team has achieved great successes and huge defeats as well. The German managed to guide the Saints to safety from relegation in all his seasons. With their best result being an 11th-place finish in the 2019-20 season. But the team also suffered two 9-0 losses against Leicester and Manchester United in the last two years. While this season they seem to struggle again with getting only four points after seven rounds. Soton didn’t have an easy start playing against teams like Everton, Manchester United and Manchester City. But they also lost at home against Wolverhampton and drew against West Ham. It might be time soon to freshen up things and get a new replacement for Hasenhuttl.

Next Southampton Manager Odds Favor Eddie Howe to Get The Job

One of the top candidates to replace the German is former Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe. With online sportsbooks in the UK offering the smallest odds, 4.32 for his appointment. The 43-year-old is available straight away and could bring some new ideas to the club. Howe spent almost his entire managerial career at Bournemouth and got great results with the club. As he guided the Cherries to the Premier League in 2015 and managed to keep them there for five seasons. The club was relegated in 2020 which also meant the end of his job there. Since then Howe hasn’t been working at any other club, though he was close to signing with Celtic this May. But he would probably accept the role at Southampton which is also close to his preferred location.

Another young manager available ASAP is Frank Lampard. Who has been out of work since his dismissal at Chelsea this January. The former Blues legend started his managerial career at Derby which he led to sixth place in the Championship. He became the manager of Chelsea in 2019 and spent one and a half years there. The team reached the FA Cup final under his lead and finished fourth in the Premier League. But in spite of spending more than £200 million on new signings last summer, Chelsea were only in 9th place at the time of his sacking. Now he would have a much smaller budget to use at the Saints if he got the job. His odds to do so are 9.50 in the next Southampton manager odds.

Alan Pardew and Sam Allardyce As Other Alternatives

Alan Pardew is currently the technical director of Bulgarian side CSKA Sofia. But probably he would leave his role to become the new manager of Southampton. He worked there already once in the 2009-2010 season before joining Newcastle. Where he reached his biggest successes. And even won the Premier League Manager of the Season award in the 2011-12 season. Pardew moved to Crystal Palace in 2014 and led the team to the FA Cup final in the following year. But after that he couldn’t get such results and was sacked. After a short spell at WBA and Dutch side ADO Den Haag, he is keen on returning to English football.  With the odds of 10.00 to be back in Southampton.

Online gambling sites in the UK also mention Steve Cooper as a possible replacement for Hasenhuttl. But the former Swansea boss was just appointed as the new manager of Championship side Nottingham Forest. So his move to the Saints is not very likely now. Unlike the appointment of Sam Allardyce who was already mentioned earlier to get the job. Big Sam had lots of experience in managing Premier League sides battling against relegation. He did have a few successes with his earlier clubs like West Ham United and Sunderland. Though he couldn’t keep his latest club, West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League last season. Now Allardyce might have an easier job at Southampton with the odds of 13.00 to be their next manager.
