Odds On West Coast To Win The Breeders Cup Classic

Arrogate might still be the bookies favorite at sites like Bet365 but the whispers on the scene that the mile and a quarter specialist from Kentucky might make an appearance has set the cat among the pigeons and you can now get superb odds on West Coast to win the Breeders Cup Classic, but should you snatch at this opportunity or are there better wagers to be had on the big race at Del Mar?

  • Will the 9/4 odds on Arrogate slip toward race day?
  • Can Gun Runner beat the 5/2 odds it gets at Bet365 to win?
  • Are the 10/1 odds on West Coast to win the Breeders Cup Classic fair?
  • Could Collected at 13/2 actually be the horse to back this November?

The odds on West Coast to win the Breeders Cup Classic will have those that like to bet on sports in the US chomping at the bit to get at the staggeringly good 10/1 bookies like Bet365 are offering on this Bob Baffert trained horse to come out victorious over a distance it covered in 2:01.19 in just this last week with a comfortable win in the Travers Stakes at Saratoga beating out Gunnevera and Irap to do so. Was it fluke or form that saw it trounce the opposition and can it replicate the performance?

If the former we have to acknowledge Arrogate, still 9/4 favorite at Bet365 etc, was beaten into second place by Collected at the Pacific Classic only just ahead of Accelerate, and that was in Del Mar itself, and if there were a time to doubt Arrogates chances it would be now, and the odds on West Coast to win the Breeders Cup Classic will shorten massively in the lead up to the race, so now might be the time to grab a slice of the action and back the winner of the Los Alamitos Derby to win this Grand Slam race.

Collected Is Fast, But Is It Fast Enough?

Likewise Arrogate’s winning time for one and a quarter miles in the Dubai World Cup was 2:02.15 slower that West Coast, albeit it under far warmer conditions, and you could quite easily be of the belief that the odds on West Coast to win the Breeders Cup Classic this year will only be enhanced by the rivalry between the favorite and Gun Runner who garners 5/2 right now at Bet365, and the presence of Collected who got that 2:00.70 time ahead of Arrogate and gets a very tempting 13/2 to win itself.

Of course if you’re going to take advantage of US gambling laws little loopholes then some of these shorter odd choices may seem a little bland and offering precious little reward for the risk. That’s why the odds on West Coast to win the Breeders Cup Classic are so delicious, although some might be more swayed by Classic Empire or Practical Joke both of which get a meaty 16/1 which would suit an each way wager on this massively famous race this autumn, held for the first time at Del Mar, California.

Del Mar racetrack is a bit of an odd bunny. Opened in 1937 it was created by a partnership that included (and I had to check because it sounds ridiculous) Gary Cooper, Oliver Hardy and Bing Crosby, with the latter there in person on the opening day to greet punters at the gate as they arrived, a publicity stunt that I feel sure made US gambling news headlines from coast to coast, far larger ones than those snidely muttering about the odds on West Coast to win the Breeders Cup Classic at present.

Whatever happens this is going to be a tight race with most of the top four able to put in a sub 2 minute time under the right conditions, although whether Del Mar can deliver them is another matter. It’s a lovely venue for the punters but that California dry heat could really hamper to performance in those not used to it, and if the odds on West Coast to win the Breeders Cup Classic don’t float your boat you can always rush to the outside of possibility and back 66/1 shot Always Dreaming, because you’d have to be asleep be so silly.
