Canoe slalom made its Olympic debut in 1972, but it only became a regular event in 1992. The races are held on artificial courses but it is still a very spectacular sporting event. Athletes can win gold medals in four different classes, men’s and women’s single canoe and kayak. While two extreme kayak singles events will join the program in the next Olympics. France has the most gold medals in the men’s slalom ahead of Germany and Slovakia. In the women’s events Germany, Slovakia and the Czech Republic all have two gold medals in K-1. The women’s C-1 race will make its debut in Tokyo with Australian and German favorites.

Olympic Canoe slalom betting preview favor Australian champion

Jessica Fox is the most successful women slalom canoeist. She won five kayak medals in the World Championships between 2013 and 2019 including three gold medals. Fox also got the silver in K-1 in London and the bronze medal in Rio. Now online sportsbooks in Australia offer the smallest odds, 1.92 for her victory. This year the Australian athlete was beaten once in the Czech World Cup race.  But she won the next one in Germany. Her biggest rival can be Ricarda Funk, who has the odds of 3.14 to win the gold. The German athlete got the gold in the K1-team in the 2017 World Championships and the silver in K-1 two years earlier.  In the new event of C-1 Fox is the biggest favorite again according to the Olympic canoe slalom betting preview. She is even stronger in canoe than kayak after winning six gold medals in the world championships. No wonder that her odds are even smaller in this event to win the first Olympic title with 1.77. But British Mallory Franklin can fight for the gold medal as well. The tallest canoe slalom athlete won the overall C-1 World Cup in 2016. While she also has one gold and three silver medals from the world championships in this event. The current leader of the 2021 World Cup, German Andrea Herzog is also mentioned in the favorites with the odds of 6.10. The 21-year-old athlete is also the winner of the 2019 world championship and can easily surprise her main rivals.

Can't wait to see how this will shake out

Tighter race is expected in the men’s kayak

As we mentioned, the men’s C-1 slalom has already got a winner. Slovenian Savsek Benjamin got the gold ahead of a Czech and German athlete. In the K-1 event the defending champion, British Joe Clarke won’t be competing this time. He didn’t make the team selection  after finishing only in fifth place, in the 2019 World Championship. Clarke was also behind his compatriot, Bradley Forbes-Cryans. Who will represent the country now and is mentioned with the odds of 17.00 to win the gold in Tokyo. But online gambling sites in Australia favor the two-time Czech world champion, Jiri Prskavec, to become the Olympic champion.  The 28-year-old athlete leads the world ranking and has belonged to the top athletes of the sport since 2014. He also won the bronze medal in the same event in Rio and has the odds of 2.63 now to finish on top. The runner-up from the previous Games, Slovenian Peter Krauzer can also fight for the gold this time. Even though the experienced canoeist hasn’t been in top form recently. Unlike Spanish David Llorente who got the silver in the 2019 World Championship and the gold with the Spanish team. Now his odds to achieve another remarkable result is 12.00 on 22Bet.
