The polls give Matthew McConaughey a chance to beat Greg Abbot to the governorship of Texas. They put him 8 points ahead. Unfortunately, however, the odds on the Texas gubernatorial election don’t echo that popular sentiment. Online betting sites in the US like Bovada aren’t entirely sure the movie star will run. Although, they are quite certain that if he does run as a third candidate, he’ll hand victory back to Greg Abbott. So is that ‘useful’ to the electorate, Matt?

Matthew McConaughey is still ‘measuring’ a run for the governor’s mansion in Texas. He claims he only wishes to run if he can be ‘useful’ to the electorate. This differs from the typical reason more seasoned politicians give which is a belief they can win. Of course, recent polls numbers would suggest that McConaughey can actually win. Just a shame then that the odds on the Texas gubernatorial election don’t really tally with those poll numbers. Not that this ought surprise us.

The pollsters can tell you that you ought bet on Matthew McConaughey all they like. We all remember just how wrong they can be. People tend to tell pollsters one thing, and then for some reason vote differently. So pollsters tend to be wrong. Which is explains that why a poll says Matt can win the odds on the Texas gubernatorial election say different. He’s still an outside chance at online sportsbook sites in the US like Bovada. Which is bad news for O’Rourke.

Who Is The Splitter And Who Is The Splittee?

Beto O’Rourke has, according to the odds on the Texas gubernatorial election, quite a good chance to beat Abbott. He’s a good democrat with experience, just the alternative the electorate need. The pollsters, apparently, disagree. They claim he’d come third in a race with Abbott and McConaughey. Worse still online bookies in the US like Bovada are pretty sure if it is a three-way contest, Abbott will win again. Question is then, who is splitting whose vote at the polls?

Texas Gubernatorial Election Odds

  • Wendy Davis – 35/1
  • Julian Castro – 30/1
  • Joaquin Castro – 25/1
  • Matthew McConaughey – 5/1
  • Beto O’Rourke – 9/2
  • Greg Abbott – 2/7

Is Matthew McConaughey ruining the chances of Beto O’Rourke the political professional? Or is a tired old cog in the political machine spoiling the chances of a fresh face in the ring? It all seems a bit moot. The reality is one will have to drop out. Which ought to be simple. One of them hasn’t even admitted he’s running yet. As those who like to bet on politics in the US will point out, that’s why the odds on the Texas gubernatorial election don’t price McConaughey shorter.

Bovada Has All The Odds On The Texas Gubernatorial Election

So obviously you’d have to be quite mad to bet on Matthew McConaughey. The Democratic party won’t back him, they’ve already bet on Beto O’Rourke as their best chance. So the chances are Matt can’t be ‘useful’ to the electorate and simply won’t run. That will render the odds on Matthew McConaughey void and leave the way open for Beto. Just look at the odds on Beto O’Rourke at Bovada. The bookies, it seems, already assume this is what’s going to happen.

So then why are the pollsters still asking people about Matthew McConaughey? The odds on the Texas gubernatorial election give him barely any chance and yet he pops up in the polls. Why? Do the pollsters really think anyone who might bet on the Texas gubernatorial election will listen to them? You’d have to be crazy. When people take advantage of US gambling laws the last people they’ll trust is the pollsters. We just have to hope McConaughey has as much sense, eh?
