The French have secured their position as favorites with an easy first win over Italy. They’re now the best bet on the Six Nations really. Meanwhile the home nations decided to get dramatic in two completely different ways. That’s why, despite their loss at Murrayfield, online sportsbook sites in the UK like bet365 still give England a chance, whilst the Welsh? Not so much. Indeed, with things as they stand, can any of the other teams actually challenge the French? Let’s see.

Look, it was a good effort by our team.” Said Eddie Jones, England Coach, as the Murrayfield crowd made its way home. Which didn’t really make up for the side having lost 20-17 against the Scots. Admittedly, they were perhaps a tad unlucky. However, Eddie was magnanimous in defeat. “It was a three point game that could have gone either way, but congratulations to Scotland. They deserve their victory.” He’d bet on the Six Nations first game being a little easier.

But there are no easy games at this level. You can always bet on the Six Nations to push sides hard, and England got well and truly shoved. So now they have to battle back from a game down in a tournament that rarely forgives such slips. Only the brave will now bet on England winning the competition. Not that many will bet on Scotland just because they won one game. As online betting sites in the UK make clear in their odds, there are sterner tests for both sides ahead.

Bet365 Has All You Need To Bet On The Six Nations

Naturally, most people will now bet on the French to walk away with the competition. Of the teams that won their first match they’re the most likely to go on to total victory. However, they’ve only faced off against the Italians so far, and that’s hardly a challenge of any sort. The Italians turn up for the competition each time but are yet to win a game. Ever. No one having a bet on the Six Nations has ever backed Italy to win. So, the French too have harder games ahead.

Odds On The Six Nations

  • Italy – 1000/1
  • Wales – 50/1
  • Scotland – 6/1
  • England – 6/1
  • Ireland – 13/8
  • France – 11/8

Not that you should really bet on the Six Nations following such an obvious pattern of events. You’d have got very poor odds on England losing to Scotland for instance. Sure, online bookies in the UK like Bet365 are giving odds on France which are hard to argue with, but this sport. Anyone who likes to bet on sports in the UK will tell you they don’t always go as expected. Just take the first round match between Ireland and Wales. That certainly didn’t go to Wales’ plan.

Defending Champions Fall Flat In First Foray

We didn’t get much right.” Explained Wales Captain Dan Biggar. That was an understatement. The defending champions, without many key players alas, had played abysmally. Ireland took to the field and dominated them from start to finish. In the end the Welsh didn’t even score as many points against Ireland as the Italians did against France. That’s just embarrassing. So whilst you can now consider a bet on Ireland a sensible bet on the Six Nations, the Welsh? Definitely not.

Odds On Round 2 Matches

  • Scotland  3/4  – 5/4    Wales   (Draw 20/1)
  • England  1/33 – 12/1  Italy     (Draw 50/1)
  • France     5/8  – 6/4    Ireland  (Draw 20/1)

Anyone taking advantage of UK gambling laws to bet on the Six Nations will notice the Welsh now get 50/1 to retain the trophy. That’s appalling. Bookies have let the odds on Scotland slip up to the same as those on England at 6/1 and the Irish, after their victory get 13/8. However, that’s still a significant distance behind the French on 11/8. So now everyone is waiting for the big clash as France meet Ireland in round two because that might just settle the whole competition.
