For a while, even this year, the odds on the 2020 Kentucky Derby having crowds looked quite good. Of course, now things are different. So this “Run For The Roses” will have quite an odd atmosphere. It will make it quite a unique experience for both the runners and riders. However whilst online sportsbook sites in the US give Tiz The Law the shortest odds, the best wagers are each-way. So let’s take a look at which horse is getting what prices and who you should back. Mentioning things will be different this year is now redundant. It would be far more noteworthy if things were “normal”, whatever that was. So, we won’t dwell on the lack of crowds and the sour historical context which tends to equate our present malady with a world war. We will instead just focus on the nags and their prices. We’re here to bet on horse racing in the US, not analyze some public health policy. So, without further ado, here’s a look at the odds on the 2020 Kentucky Derby. For you optimists out there (and your numbers are dwindling folks) there are some longshots. Winning Impression, Major Fed, and Necker Island all get 100/1 odds in the 2020 Kentucky Derby. This gives them the chances of a snowball in hell, however since we’re all headed that way in a handcart, why not give it a whirl? Choice of Mine and Dieu Du Vin get 66/1 which is, frankly, a little better. Online betting sites in the US like Bovada won’t expect much action on them. Do not confound this expectation.

Max Player Could Be An Interesting Place Bet

In a more realistic realm lie the 40/1 shots of Attachment Rate and Pneumatic. They don’t have hope, but it’s closer to reality than the longshots. Sole Volanate and Finnick The Fierce get 33/1 but only to separate them from the raft of horses at 25/1. Kiss Today Goodbye, Caracara, Enforceable, and Storm the Court all get these odds on the 2020 Kentucky Derby. They’re not in of themselves bad choices, but only as a speculative punt. There are still far better bets out there.
Odds On The 2020 Kentucky Derby
  • King Guillermo – 20/1
  • Swiss Skydiver – 20/1
  • Max Player – 20/1
  • Rushie – 20/1
  • Dr Post – 18/1
  • Ny Traffic – 18/1
  • Thousand Words – 14/1
  • Authentic – 10/1
  • Honor AP – 11/2
  • Art Collector – 8/1
  • Tis The Law – 4/6
Some of these are at 20/1. Rushie, Max Player, Swiss Skydiver, and King Guillermo might not win, but a place? As an each-way bet on the 2020 Kentucky Derby, they could be superb. King Guillermo came 2nd in the Arkansas Derby and Max Player third in the Belmont. With a 4/1 return at most bookies, that’s a pretty good reason to take advantage of US gambling laws at Bovada. For those less brave, however, there are, of course, far shorter prices available.

Dr Post, which finished second in the Belmont, gets 18/1 odds on the 2020 Kentucky Derby, alongside Ny Traffic. This is only just behind Thousand Words at 14/1 who really won’t attract many backers given the 10/1 shot available. Authentic got 2nd place at The Santa Anita Derby and could easily place at Churchill Downs. At 10/1 that’s no bad bet. Of course, Honor AP won that race, so it gets a slightly better 11/2. Art Collector gets 8/1 which makes it an on-the-nose only option really.
Kentucky Derby
  • Date – Saturday, September 5th
  • Location – Louisville, Kentucky
  • Course – Churchill Downs
  • Surface - Dirt
  • Distance – 1¼ miles (10 Furlongs/2,012m)
  • Qualification – 3 Years Old +
This leaves Tiz The Law, winner of the Belmont, head, and shoulders above the rest of the field at 4/6. Some bookies are going as far to offer only 10/11 on it. This means it’s a no brainer bet on sports in the US at Bovada, but hardly an exciting one. The odds on the 2020 Kentucky Derby are far more fun at the each-way end of the trench. So rather than wallow in the situation we face why not pick a winner and watch the race on TV. Everyone else will be doing precisely the same.
