The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is a new Amazon TV series based on J. R. R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings and its appendices. As you have probably heard, this is the most expensive series of all time with an estimated budget of $1 billion. According to MyBookie.ag, the show will have five seasons, one of which has just come to an end. Season 1 consisted of eight episodes with the final one hitting the small screens on October 14. So it’s the right time to sum the whole season up, take a look at reviews, and evaluate The Rings of Power award predictions. Beware of the spoilers ahead!

The Rings of Power plot summary – season 1

Season 1 of The Rings of Power focused on the events taking place thousands of years before the events of The Lord of the Rings. Based on Tolkien’s appendices covering the Second Age, the season showed the rise of Galadriel, a young warrior elf, and her complex relationship with a guy named Halbrond who turned out to be Sauron. The season also featured a love story between elf Arondir and human Bronwyn; adventures of Harfoots and the first appearance of Gandalf; Elrond’s friendship with Durin IV and his wife Disa; and other new & familiar characters from the books like Isildur, Celebrimbor, and Elendil.

Besides that, the series introduced worlds that haven’t been shown in previous movies but were familiar to Tolkien fans. For example, we saw Numenor, Valinor, Forodwaith, Rhovanion, and Khazad-dûm for the very first time. We saw how Mordor got its name and look. The final episode also revealed the forging of the three elven Rings leaving the rest for the upcoming seasons. Take a look at the season 2 predictions at online betting sites in the US.

Critics and viewers reacted to season 1 differently

The Rings of Power has divided critics and viewers. Critics have mostly praised the series, especially its plot, characters, visuals, and score. According to RottenTomatoes, season 1 received 85% positive reviews. Another source, Metacritic, shows a score of 71 out of 100 based on critical reviews.

However, viewers are not that happy about The Rings of Power. The difference between their and critical reviews is more than solid. In comparison to critics’ praises on RottenTomatoes, the audience score on the same site is just 39%. The user score on Metacritic is pretty low – 2.4 based on almost 3000 reviews.

The series received a backlash from the audience for a number of reasons. First of all, Tolkien fans were biased against The Rings of Power long before its release. They criticized everything except for visuals with a special focus on actors who didn’t match their descriptions in books. The premiere of season 1 didn’t change much, so the overall rating of The Rings of Power is 6.9/10 on IMDB, the biggest people’s source for movies and TV series.

How does it all affect The Rings of Power award predictions?

Before its premiere, The Rings of Power was one of the main candidates for various awards in 2023. It was supposed to beat another fantasy series based on books. Surely, we are talking about HBO’s The House of the Dragon. However, the prequel to the Game of Thrones series shows much better results than Amazon’s creation. Its average rating on various sites varies from 8.1 to 8.6. The audience liked THOTD much more than TROP, while reviews from critics are pretty much on the same level. How can this all affect The Rings of Power award predictions?

Considering positive reviews from critics, The Rings of Power are highly likely to be nominated for awards. You can even bet on the series to receive nominations for Golden Globes and Emmys. Most bookies are sure that TROP will enter the Best Drama Series shortlists. Will it win though? This is a good question, but most likely it won’t be named the best TV show of the year. Most viewers won’t understand it.

However, The Rings of Power award predictions in technical nominations look very optimistic. The series features truly great visuals, so the team is definitely worth receiving awards. If you agree that artists from Weta, ILM, and other studios deserve recognition for their job, bet on them to win awards at online sportsbooks in the US.
