Gambling stories 2017

Last week was chock full of big, important, news stories so in case you missed anything salient we have a look at some of the stories that hit the headlines.

In the United States President Donald Trump found himself under increasing pressure with his popularity rating dropping to a 70 year low for the highest office in America as the scandal involving h is son taking a meeting with Russian lawyers, lobbyists and spies rumbled on last week. With his election campaign blaming the Secret Service for allowing Donald Trump Jnr to meet known threats to the country and the President denying he knows anything at all US politics continued in turmoil.

In Europe the strategic shifting of position ahead of the negotiations on Brexit caused the City Of London to warn last week that the French plan on using the divorce of the UK from the mainland as weakness to be exploited in order to remove some of the financial services and trade business that has traditionally fallen to the City. Warning of the French desire to “disrupt and degrade” the UK financial sector the envoy to the EU, Jeremy Browne, left no room for misinterpretation of his opinion.

In Turkey president Recep Tayyip Erdogan addressed a crowd of thousands who had gathered to celebrate the one year anniversary of the coup attempt in 2016 that failed to unseat the authoritarian President. With over two hundred dead the coup lead to a purge of state employees with over 150,000 losing their employment for allegedly being supporters of the elements of the military who led the coup. July 15th was named as “Democracy and National Unity Day” and declared an annual holiday.
