  • Gerwyn Price & Michael Van Gerwen Favourites

Darts has a rather checkered history. It started as a way for archers to practice indoors, and ended up a traditional pub pastime. Over the years the authorities have attempted to ban it, players tried to drown it and the public just ignore it. But it’s still going strong, and indeed getting more popular. So forget all you remember and check out a bet on the Grand Slam of Darts at online sportsbook sites in the UK like Bet365. There’s a veritable smorgasbord of opportunities.

Gerwyn “The Iceman” Price, Michael Van Gerwen, and Peter Wright are leading the odds on the 2020 Grand Slam of Darts. They’re the big three and if you’re planning to bet on the Grand Slam of Darts they’re each great wagers. Of course, it’s a long tournament and anything can happen, but they’re the dominant players. You have to expect them to do well. However the PDC contest has surprised us before, so don’t rush to bet on Michael van Gerwen or back The Iceman just yet.

This is mostly because of the lengthy group stages. Eight groups of four whittling themselves down to just 16 players. It provides for some interesting matchups and some very close games. However, by November 20th, those final 16 will be taking to the stage in the Ricoh Arena in Coventry. So, if you’re looking for a great bet on sports in the UK, you don’t have long left to put a bet on the Grand Slam of Darts at bet365. The question is which of the big three will win.

Peter Wright Is The Man On Form

Bet365, and the rest of the online bookies in the UK, see Peter Wright as the least likely of the three to win. The Scot, known in the trade as “Snakebite”, was runner up at this tournament last year. He lost to Gerwyn Price that time. He lost to Michael Van Gerwen at the Champions League of Darts final. This year, however, he’s doing significantly better. Indeed, given his price and form, he’s possibly the best bet on the Grand Slam of Darts. He’s beaten them both this year.

The 2020 PDC World Darts Championship saw him first beat Price 6-3 and then van Gerwen 7-3. That made him the 2020 World Darts Champion. So, whilst the bookies give him the longest odds of the three, it isn’t by much. Take advantage of UK gambling laws to check out the odds on Peter Wright and you’ll find he gets around 11/2 to win. A bet on Gerwyn Price, by comparison, will get you 10/3 at Bet365, with Michael van Gerwen twixt the two at 7/2 or so. But it’s close.

The odds on Michael van Gerwen and Gerwyn Price may be shorter, but he’s the man on form. So a bet on Peter Wright is possibly the best balance of your chances. Not that the odds on Gerwyn Price and Michael van Gerwen are unfairly short. On their day, any of these three can win this, if they don’t trip over in the early rounds. At this level, you can’t take anything for granted. However, if you’re going to bet on the Grand Slam of Darts this week they’re the only realistic show in town.

Sure, perhaps Nathan Aspinall will surprise us all, or Michael Smith out-do the big boys, but it’s unlikely. The margin between defeat and victory is so slim that it takes a special kind of player to hold their nerve. Especially when nerves get frayed, as they sometimes do. Poor tempers sometimes snapping. Unfortunately, online betting sites in the UK like Bet365 won’t give you odds on a fight starting for your bet on the Grand Slam of Darts. So you’ll just have to pick the winner.
