The leader of the Communist Party is trying for the 5th time in a row and will probably fail for the 5th time in a row. In politics, they usually accept that people don’t like them enough after trying twice but it works differently in the sunny Siberian steppe. The second category is those who are nominated by political parties that are not represented in the Duma. These candidates need 105,000 valid signatures from the common people.

The last category belongs to the vast majority. Those who are not taking any part in any political parties’ life and are not supported by them either. Self-nominated candidates need to collect 350,000 valid and accepted signatures in order to be able to run for presidency. Which makes sense: the less support you got, the more effort you need to put in. And the more people support your campaign, the less you need to do for yourself. It’s only logical.
