The last couple of months have not been easy for the lawmakers and Governor Cuomo of the Big Apple. They have been eagerly trying to figure out how to launch mobile sports betting in New York for apps. As always: there were opponents to the proposal. So, it has only been suggestions going back-and-forth between them. But now we do see that it was worth all the work! A couple of weeks back we reported, that they made huge leaps in the direction of making the whole process come true. And now, they even announced the details of launching the new means of wagering in The City.

Steps forward

So far, the residents of the Big Apple, who wanted to place a sports bet, had to travel all the way upstate to casinos to do that. But so far, it looks like that they do not have to make too much effort anymore. The online sportsbook sites in the US are coming to New York in the form of mobile sports betting apps! The advancement became obvious when Governor Cuomo announced the city’s budget for the 2022 fiscal year. The report included the legalization of mobile sports betting, as it is a form of generating a bigger tax income. And that is something the city needs – lucky for wagers! This way, they will contribute to the 212 billion dollars spending agenda. It is also good news for popular betting sites, like Bovada, since New York will be a great market for them. Once getting a license!

Mobile sports betting apps in New York

On 21st April, Governor Andrew Cuomo signed the Budget Legislation for the 2022 fiscal year. And that was the document that officially legalized online sports betting in the Empire State. They even chose a special date to make the mobile sports betting apps go live in New York. And it is the date of the 2022 Super Bowl! Senator Joseph Addabbo Jr is one of the most active supporters of gambling in the state. As such, it is not a surprise that he spoke up on the topic: “You don’t want to miss out on another Super Bowl. I think this would be a good benchmark for New York to see how we’re doing.”

This is why they hope that they can have the market up and running by them. We believe that there will be several online sportsbooks in the US, like Bovada that would love to get a license in New York. And take part in the frenzy around the Super Bowl!

How to get there?

We can all agree on one thing: New York is a great market! And the state already finalized the path to launch. It included the state accepting applications from corporations and they will choose two providers who can get online betting licenses. So that will probably be a huge run for operators. The interested providers can apply from July 1stand will likely go on until the end of the year. The state of New York will have 150 days to choose from candidates who can run through their mobile sports betting apps. However, these providers will have to dig down: they have to pay a one-time 25 million dollar fee for the government. They will also be taxed at a maximum of 13%. Well, we will soon see who can take the responsibilities on!
