Italy allows and licenses mobile casinos, and therefore local players have access to about a dozen of these virtual venues, as of March 2017. Italy’s mobile penetration rate will pass 160% in 2013, with four network operators covering the market. TIM and Vodafone each serve around a third of the subscribers, while Wind has over 20% share and “3” has under 10%. Industry estimates project 10 million tablet users in Italy by the end of 2013, which is one in six people for the whole population. There are also around 38 million smartphones, so around half of all Italians could be in possession of a portable device.
